TN Governor Signs Groundbreaking Amendments to Sports Wagering Laws

Effective July 1, 2023, things will be different for sports wagering licensees in Tennessee. Eliminated are the minimum hold requirement and the official league data mandate. There will also be a radical change in the way sports wagering companies are taxed: Taxes will be assessed at 1.85% of handle instead of the present 20% of GGR. Also gone is the word "Advisory" from the name of the Sports Wagering Advisory Council.

Tennessee sports betting operators will soon be taxed on the money bettors wager as opposed to the revenue they generate because of a bill signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Bill Lee.
