Tennessee Wrestles with Official League Data Mandate

Two mobile sports wagering licensees in Tennessee have asked the Sports Wagering Advisory Council to relieve them of the mandate to use official league data in determining winning wagers. The licensees requested the ability to use alternative data sources due to the perceived high cost of obtaining official league data. The SWAC tossed the issue to the Tennessee Legislature, where bills on the subject are pending consideration.

Tennessee’s requirement, however, is a stronger mandate than in other states. Illinois and Tennessee require operators to use official league data for live betting purposes. Operators don’t appreciate the mandate, as the data providers can charge hefty fees that the operators essentially have to pay to do business in the state.
